3/7/2000 LAS VEGAS -- University Theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will present "Aimee and Jaguar" starring two internationally recognized Swiss actresses--Graziella Rossi and Pia Waibel--at 8 p.m. April 4 and 5 in the Paul Harris Theatre located on campus in the Ham Fine Arts Building. "Aimee and Jaguar" is a seering love story of the true life experiences of two women in Berlin in the early 1930s. Felice Schragenheim is a Jewess who did not survive the war and Elizabeth Wust is a Nazi officer's wife who lived to tell of the doomed love of the two women. At the age of eighty, after a life of agonizing silence, Elizabeth Wust shared her story with Vienna's foremost feminist author Erica Fischer. Life in Berlin in the early 1930s was not a kind place for Jews or homosexuals. By combining recollections, interviews, documents, diaries and letters, a tale of strength and devotion of two women who defied the brutality of the world around them is finally told. With simplicity and taste, this account has been dramatized by the two Swiss actresses, Graziella Rossi and Pia Waibel. Waibel was born in Basel, Switzerland. She trained at the Theatre Academy of Zurich and has performed in many of the most-important theatres in Switzerland and Germany. For several seasons she was a member of the acting company at the Neumarkt Theatre in Zurich where she performed in scores of new and classic plays. Currently she is a member of the acting company of the Stadttheatre, St. Gallen, in Switzerland. She has also appeared in numerous Swiss television, radio and film productions. Rossi was born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and trained at the theater academies of Zurich and Prague. She has performed extensively in Switzerland, Germany, Poland and Italy. She has also appeared in Massachusetts and New York. Rossi has extensive film and television credits and currently works as a freelance actress throughout Europe. With Waibel she performed "Aimee and Jaguar" at California Repertory Company in January 1999. Tickets--$5--are available at the Performing Arts Center Box Office.
