| 'SNIGLETS' CREATOR RICH HALL TO STAR IN RIVIERA COMEDY CLUB |
2/1/2002 February 01, 2002 The Riviera Hotel & Casino welcomes the return of multi-faceted screwball Rich Hall. Hall, the author of "Sniglets," a five book best-seller series on crazy word definitions and who starred in his own cable television comedy show, "Rich Hall's Onion World," will take center stage at the award-winning Riviera Comedy Club, beginning Monday, February 18, for seven hilarious nights. After countless appearances on "The Tonight Show," HBO's "Not Necessarily the News" and a year of indenture to "Saturday Night Live," most people don't realize that Hall is, first and foremost, a stand-up comedian. Hall also won an Emmy, writing for David Letterman's shows. Scanning the stage before one of Hall's shows, one might be baffled by the giant boxes of detergents and squares of Plexiglas that figure prominently in his performances. Add to this some bizarre items of clothing, and you get the idea that this is no garden-variety comedy show. It is difficult to describe Hall's style of humor. It doesn't always come across funny on paper, yet people come away converted to his wry, thoughtful, candidly warped view of the world. His years on the rocky road of the American way have not only fueled his routines, but left him with an offbeat wisdom that puts everything into perspective. Hall's fractured points of view on loneliness, being broke, dating, self-esteem, and other states of mind are the keys to his successful stand-up routine. Catching a Rich Hall performance is catching a modern day comedy phenomenon. Appearing with Hall are funny guys Ross Rumberg and Craig Baldo. Ross Rumberg is the owner and operator of Rumor's Restaurant and Comedy Club, the longest running independent comedy club in Canada. The club is 1,000 miles away from his home in Toronto. "This is why my marriage has held together," he states. "Ownership has also allowed me to work with some of the greats, both on and off stage." One of Rumberg's claims to fame, though not by his own doing, is his family relationship with Moe Howard of the Three Stooges. Betty Rumberg, Ross' mother is the main Stooge's first cousin. "Not only is there no resemblance physically, it's apparent that comedy is not genetic," quips Rumberg. Craig Baldo is making his Riviera debut. Show times for the Riviera Comedy Club are 8 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $17.95 plus tax and fee. VIP seating and a line pass are available. Ask about the special dinner/show combos.
