| 'SUGAR' SHANE MOSLEY TO DEFEND WBC WELTERWEIGHT TITLE AGAINST SHANNAN TAYLOR AT CAESARS PALACE MARCH 10 |
1/25/2001 January 25, 2001 LAS VEGAS -- Cedric Kushner Promotions, in association with Caesars Palace, is pleased to announce welterweight champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley will battle WBC No. 1 contender Shannan Taylor in the ring at Caesars Palace March 10, 2001. Mosley, selected as the WBC's Fighter of the Year for 2000, will defend his WBC welterweight crown in the Las Vegas resort's Palace Ballroom. This bout, scheduled for 12 rounds, will be televised on HBO's World Championship Boxing at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT. "In what appears to be one of Las Vegas' busiest boxing seasons, the Mosley ticket will be the hottest," said Cedric Kushner, Mosley's promoter. "Shane's ascent to the top has come by fighting regularly and by taking on all comers. The winning of the welterweight title will not change the Mosleys' work ethic. Both father and champion Shane want to continue their regular activity by fighting the best. Unbeaten Shannan Taylor is an example of their desire." Mosley, 36-0, with 33 knockouts, is coming off a dazzling sixth-round knockout of tough Antonio Diaz at New York's Madison Square Garden in November. He cannot afford to be complacent against Taylor, a hard-hitting Australian who has scored 20 knockouts in his 28 wins. He has no losses and one draw. In his last bout, Taylor scored an eighth-round knockout over veteran Nick Rupa. The Mosley-Taylor bout headlines an exciting night of boxing that also includes a Lance Whitaker/Oleg Maskaev heavyweight fight. The Palace Ballroom (approximately 2,800 seats) is located on the Ballroom level (4th floor) of the resort's Palace Tower. Reserved-seat tickets, priced at $100, $200 and $300 (plus a $3 ticket-handling fee per ticket), will go on sale Friday, Jan. 26, at Caesars Palace.
