1/29/2001 January 29, 2001 LAS VEGAS--Playing at the White House is getting to be a habit for North Star, million-selling, recording artist David Osborne, who entertains in Caesars Palace's Cafe Lago. The Steinway featured artist has performed at the White House and throughout the country for former presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton, and a host of dignitaries and celebrities. He recently completed two holiday performances at the White House for outgoing President and Mrs. Clinton, in what has become a familiar and comfortable environment for the talented Osborne. Osborne's frequent role as the "presidential pianist" has endeared him to many, particularly former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, who count Osborne as a friend and who refer to him as being, "one of the finest pianists in the United States." In 1999, Osborne was instrumental in planning a gala concert to celebrate Carter's 75th birthday, which coincided with the reopening of the historic Rylander Theater in Americus, Georgia. Osborne, and other Carter celebration committee members, arranged for celebrities such as Pat Boone, the Indigo Girls and the McGuire Sisters to perform at the auspicious event, which was hosted by former ABC weather reporter, Spencer Christian. Osborne's longtime connection with the Carters has developed into a warm and enduring friendship over the years. Osborne has traveled to Georgia on several occasions to perform in honor of the former president, a man Osborne considers to be the greatest person to ever hold the office. Osborne holds a bachelor's degree in music performance and a master's degree in keyboard performance. He calls himself a bipartisan pianist, "I play in either key", he jokes, adding that he hopes that the tradition will continue and that he will be invited to play for the new administration. (Former president George Bush has sent word to Osborne that he will recommend him to his newly-elected son.) Osborne's piano stylings can be heard in Caf? Lago between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., Saturday through Thursday, 6 P.M. and 11 p.m. on Friday, and between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. |
