7/24/2002 Waco woman, algebra teacher for 27 years, won $3 million dollars playing Wheel of Fortune slot machine Marry Holingsworth (63), longtime teacher from Waco, has won $3,555,293.44 playing a Wheel of Fortune slot machine last month. She had planned to retire at Christmas but the winning has changed her plans and after 27 years at Midway schools, she called in that same day. When she had arrived to the Boomtown Casino and Hotel in Bossier City, she has been told her room wasn't ready. While she was waiting she decided to kill the time and play Wheel of Fortune slot machine. After about 10 minutes of playing, it happened. "I had put in $120 and then on the next pull, it happened," said Holingsworth, "I knew I had won when all the Wheel of Fortune symbols lined up. I stud up and yelled 'I just won $3 million dollars!' It was a very exciting adventure for me." While it seems Holingsworth had no difficulties to adjust her new lifestyle among the idle rich, her husband hasn't missed a day of work at his auto sales and service business since the winning. "He doesn't really understand yet that he doesn't really have to work," she said. Will she spend the money on wild shopping trips? Probably not. She bought a new Nissan Maxima, her third white Maxima in a row. "People laugh when I tell them I got a Maxima and say I should have gotten a Cadillac. But I love my Maximas. I'm pretty practical as far as things like that go". She also thinks of improving the lives of her four grown children. "I am pretty happy and pretty content in my life and that s really the way I feel." |
