| JULIO IGLESIAS PERFORMS AT CAESARS PALACE AUGUST 17 - 20 |
|
7/14/2000 July 14, 2000 Julio Iglesias has enjoyed one of the most remarkable and illustrious careers in the history of modern music. No other artist has reached out to so many people, in as many languages, in so many places. In January of 1996, the Chinese government awarded him the distinguished "Gold Record Prize" for selling more albums than any other foreign artist in the history of China.
Born the son of a Madrid physician in 1943, Iglesias became a star athlete for a professional soccer team. At 19, his dreams were shattered by a near-fatal car accident that left Iglesias paralyzed. During his years of recuperation, a convalescent nurse handed him a guitar to motivate him to exercise his fingers. He not only discovered the ability to walk again but a gift of music as well.
In 1968, Iglesias entered Spain's Benidorm Song Festival. He won first prize with his composition "La Vida Sigue Igual" (Life Goes On). He continued to succeed in festivals throughout Europe, Central and South America.
In 1983, Iglesias was already in the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more albums in more languages than any other artist in history before his music reached the United States. His first English release, "1100 Bel Air Place," was certified triple-platinum and its hit single, "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" (a duet with Willie Nelson), helped Iglesias bridge the gap from European to American music markets.
In 1998 Julio released "My Life: The Greatest Hits," which is a double CD album that is released in six different languages. Considering the start to Julio's life, "My Life: The Greatest Hits," is more than an album, it's a part of his life. His latest album, "Noche de Cuatro Lunas" (Night of Four Moons), is a compilation of Latin love songs written by popular songwriters Alejandro Sanz, Ruben Blades, Zeze di Camargo & Luciano, Estefano and Arakeru.
At Caesars Palace, the Iglesias shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets are priced at $75 including tax, excluding a $3 per ticket handling fee. For tickets and information, phone 702/731-7333 or 800/445-4544. |
