On July 27 and 28, Darryl Hall and John Oates will perform in the Las Vegas Hilton Theater at 9:00 p.m. Tickets start at $35 and are available at the Box Office, or by calling (702) 732-5755. Hall and Oates admit they didn't know quite what to expect after the release of their last album in 1990, Change of Season, which spawned the soul-stirring hit ballad "So Close." The album title aptly reflected something they both agreed upon - there had to be change. They had gone from Philadelphia's hometown musicians with a love for Motown and soul, to the top of the charts with classic songs like "Sara Smile," "She's Gone" and "Out of Touch." Their list of accomplishments guarantee them a place in the history books: six number one hits, 29 Top 40 songs, over 40 million records sold and their status as "Pop music's number one singing duo," according to the New York Times. However, change was inevitable. In hindsight, the solution seems simple, take a break and gain a new perspective. And it worked. They reduced their commitments to brief touring every year, worked on solo projects and reflected on their own lives. Over the last few years, they have been able to examine their strengths from a distance, which led to the recording of Marigold Sky. The album combines elements of every part of Hall and Oates' career, from acoustic soul elements of their landmark Abandoned Luncheonette, to the tender soul classics like "One on One." The album's lyrics explore the conflicting elements of freedom versus commitment in relationships and in life, recurring theme in the Hall and Oates canon.
