| GRAMMY AWARD-WINNERS, THE COMMODORES, TO PERFORM MULTIPLE ENGAGEMENTS AT THE LAS VEGAS HILTON IN 2002 |
11/27/2001 November 27, 2001 LAS VEGAS - The Commodores, who blazed a trail throughout the 70s and 80s as the largest selling act on the Motown label, will heat up the Las Vegas Hilton Theater as a multiple engagement musical act starting in January, 2002. The Commodores have been signed to a 13-week deal with the Las Vegas Hilton to perform six nights a week in the Hilton Theater throughout the coming year. In a bold move, The Las Vegas Hilton has signed the Righteous Brothers and the Smothers Brothers to similar deals that will feature entertainment in the Hilton Theater six nights a week including headliner acts on weekends. It is all part of a new layered entertainment plan designed to offer consumers unprecedented choices in entertainment. The Commodores were signed by Motown Records in 1974 after touring the U.S. and Canada as the opening act for the Jackson Five. Their first big hit was an instrumental called "Machine Gun." They followed with a string of 22 gold records, six platinum records, two double platinum records and three triple platinum albums, selling close to 60 million records. Their first recordings for the label were produced in Muscle Shoals, Ala., by the well-known producing duo of Terry Woodford and Clayton Ivey. The Commodores have roots in Alabama and were inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, alongside groups and artists like Alabama, Hank Williams, Erskine Hawkins, Wilson Pickett, Temptations, Nat King Cole and Sonny James. The Commodores scored with such hits as "I Feel Sanctified," "Slippery When Wet," "Fancy Dancer," "Just To Be Close To You," "Sweet Love," "Easy," "Three Times A Lady," "Sail On" and "Still." The hit recordings included four Top Five albums: Commodores, Commodores Live, Natural High and Midnight Magic. The Commodores perform live in concert at the Las Vegas Hilton Theater Jan. 29 - Feb. 10, March 26 - April 7, April 23 - May 9, Sept. 10 - Oct. 6 and Nov. 26 - Dec. 5, 2002.
