9/23/2001 Phillipine President directs government employees not to frequent casinos In an attempt to keep gambling under control, the Phillipine government has strict rules about whom may gamble. Only foreign tourists and local residents with a net annual income of 50,000 pesos are allowed to enter and play in casinos. Government officials and employees and members of the military and police are banned always. Despite this, some government employees have chosen to ignore this directive. As such President Macapagal-Arroyo decided to reiterate the standing government directive, ordering all heads of departments, bureaus and offices, government-owned and controlled corporations, local governments, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to ?remind officials and employees under them regarding this prohibition and to impose the appropriate sanctions and penalties in case of violation thereof.? One of President Macapagal-Arroyo?s major values as leader is the moral recovery of the country and she stands firmly against gambling, officially shunning gambling-friendly policies. |
