9/28/2001 Schwarzenegger sues IGT over rights In a lawsuit filed this month in Los Angeles, Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking International Game Technology to court. Schwarzenegger is suing the gaming company for US$20 million for allegedly creating and marketing slot machines based on his voice and likeness as the "Terminator" without his consent. The lawsuit claims that IGT did not ask for the Schwarzenegger?s permission to make the slot machines and then advertise them at a convention earlier this year. Schwarzenegger is very particular about which products he advertises. The lawsuit states that he is ?particularly circumspect to avoid using his name, likeness or image for certain industries such as gambling.? IGT, on the other hand, claims it had been licensed by Canal Plus in France and Creative Licensing Corp. in Los Angeles to market a "Terminator" slot machine. Said IGT spokesman Rick Sorensen, ?Since we are very protective of our own property rights, we are extremely cautious of the property rights of others.? He continued, that although the machine ?might have been in development, it was never released.? |
