10/7/2001 Park Place considering taking over the Aladdin Park Place Entertainment Corperation has revealed that it is considering taking an ownership position in the bankrupt Aladdin hotel-casino. However, Park Place Chief Executive Tom Gallagher, warned earlier this week, that it had not yet committed to making a run at the $1.2 billion property. It is still early days for the Aladdin?s Chapter 11 bankruptcy and Park Place is considering its options as the corporation has held a one-third position in the Aladdin's junk bonds since 1999. If the bonds were converted to equity, Park Place could gain an ownership stake in the property. However, Gallagher said that it should not be presumed that Park Place would attempt a takeover because of its bonds position. Park Place Chief Financial Officer Scott LaPorta reinforced the statement, telling investors the company would need to see a return on investment of at least 18 percent before proceeding with acquisitions. The management of Park Place is still looking for its justification to put their capital to use at the Aladdin. Gallagher said, ?We're in an ideal position because of who we are and where we are, but that doesn't necessarily mean we'll end up doing something.? |
